MEEDHOO HOLDS WASTE MANAGEMENT SEMINAR FOR WOMEN


North Maalhosmadulu Atoll Meedhoo, 14 June 2006 (Wednesday) - A seminar on waste management awareness was conducted to the community of Meedhoo by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Water. The seminar was targeted to the women and shop owners of Meedhoo community. Information on the types of waste, life cycle of waste, and good waste management practices was given in this seminar. The participants were given information on how to segregate waste, and how to make compost out of biodegradable waste. In addition, information was collected on present and past waste management practices in Meedhoo, and discussions were held on what can be done to improve their present waste management situation.

The Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Abdul Muhsin Mohamed opened this seminar. The Minister of Environment, Energy and Water Ahmed Abdulla, the Deputy Ministers of Environment, Energy and Water Mr. Abdullahi Majeed and Mr. Abdul Razzak Idrees, and the Atoll Chief of North Maalhosmadulu Atoll Mr. Saud Abdulla attended this ceremony.

A total of 48 participants attended this seminar. The seminar was conducted by Ms. Athira Ali and Mr. Mareer Mohamed Husnee of the Ministry from Environment, Energy and Water.
