“Green Leaf” award

“Green Leaf” award, the most prestigious award in recognition to the outstanding work undertaken towards protection and preservation of environment was awarded to the friendly people of Japan and the Daily Newspaper Haveeru today.

During the official Meeting held to commemorate the World Environment Day at Meedhoo island of North Maalosmadulu Atoll, “Green Leaf” award were given by His Excellency President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom to the friendly people of Japan and Haveeru Daily Newspaper to acknowledge their outstanding work undertaken towards protection and preservation of the environment.

Protective structures worth US $ 58 million has been constructed along the coast of Male’ the capital of Maldives with the assistance of friendly people of Japan to protect the residents living in Male’ from high waves after the 1987 tidal wave flooding disaster.

Haveeru Daily Newspaper had also been creating awareness on the protection and preservation of environment through its weekly articles published from 1986 on a continuous basis.
