‘The 3R forum is the biggest and most important forum held in Maldives in the recent history’-Thoriq Ibrahim

“The 3R forum is the biggest and most important forum held in Maldives in the recent history” said Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim. He said this in the press conference held to brief the media about the Sixth Regional 3R forum for Asia and the Pacific, held from 17-19 August 2015. Speaking at the press conference, he also said a Waste Management Policy will be launched next September. Speaking further, he said that the 3R forum was a success since the Male’ 3R Declaration was signed by 99 resorts of Maldives and “Saafu-raajje Initiative” campaign was endorsed by all the atoll councils of Maldives.

In the Sixth Regional 3R forum for Asia and the Pacific held at Dharubaaruge, Male’ was attended by 256 participants from 33 countries and 77 Non-government Organizations (NGOs) have participated. In this forum presentations were given based on the Waste Management ways adopted in Japan and other countries.

In this press conference, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, State Minister of the Environment, Japan, Mr. Yasuhiro Ozato, Minister of State for Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Lirar Hussein, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Environment and Energy, Mr. Ali Amir have participated. Also, the Director of United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) have participated in the press conference.

The Seventh Regional 3R forum for Asia and the Pacific is to be held in Adelade, Australia.
