Maldives participating in the 3rd General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency

The 3rd General Assembly of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has begun yesterday (13 January 2013) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
More than 850 delegates from 150 countries participated in the assembly of IRENA which is the foremost annual renewable energy event, setting the global policy agenda for the transition to a sustainable future based on renewable resources and technologies.
The Maldivian delegation attending the assembly and Abu Dhabi Sustainable Week is headed by the Minister of Environment and Energy Dr. Mariyam Shakeela. During the high level plenary session Minister highlighted the importance of renewable energy in mitigating the climate change and the current activities carried out by the Maldives on the field of renewable energy. This two day conference is being held within the framework of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
