Awareness workshop on Energy Efficiency held at Kaafu atoll Maafushi School

An awareness workshop on energy efficiency was held in Kaafu Atoll Maafushi School from 03rd -04th October 2016. This two day workshop was organized by the Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) Project. A total of 44 students from grades 8 and 9 of Maafushi School participated in the workshop.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Workshop, Maafushi School Principal Mr. Abdul Nasir Mohamed said that the best way to change a community is by providing the knowledge and increasing awareness among the students of that community. He also highlighted that this workshop will have positive impact on responsible usage of electricity.

The two day workshop was conducted by officials from Ministry of Environment and Energy, Maldives Energy Authority and the LCEI Project Management Unit.

Certificates were awarded to the participants by Maafushi School Principal, Mr. Abdul Nasir Mohamed.

In the workshop, information was given on climate change, energy efficiency, ways to be more energy efficient, how to conserve energy and importance of energy efficiency in building design to reduce GHG emissions. Exercises were conducted to provide knowledge on power consumption of equipment’s and power consumption of buildings.

The Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) Project is implemented by Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) supported by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and Financed by Government of Maldives and Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through energy efficiency in the building sector, increasing energy efficiency in the building sector by developing appropriate polices, guidelines and standards.
