Research on Consumer Behavior and Preferences regarding Energy Efficiency in households to be conducted

Contract signed to conduct Research on Consumer Behavior and Preferences Regarding Energy Efficiency in Households. The contract worth MVR 490,000 was awarded to Riyan Private Limited and will to be completed by January 2017.

Minister of State for Environment and Energy, Mr. Abdul Matheen Mohamed signed the contract on behalf of the Ministry and Managing Director Ibrahim Hameez signed the contract on behalf of Riyan Private Limited.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony Minister of State for Environment and Energy, Mr. Abdul Matheen Mohamed noted that this is the first time a research of this nature and scope is conducted in the Maldives and results of this research will be used to formulate an Energy Efficiency Awareness Campaign.

The sample taken to conduct the research will be a representative sample of the Maldivian population. In the research, information will be gathered on:

  • Energy efficiency knowledge,
  • Usage patterns,
  • Energy efficiency measures taken in the household
  • Factors influencing purchase
  • Barriers to implement energy efficiency measures
  • Readiness to implement energy efficiency measures

This activity is carried out by “Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies” project which is implemented by Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) assisted by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and financed by Government of Maldives and Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through energy efficiency in the building sector, increasing energy efficiency in the building sector by developing appropriate policies, guidelines and standards.
