Ceremony held for the integration of Renewable Energy into the power systems of 48 islands

Today, a ceremony was held at Hotel Jen for the integration of Renewable Energy into the power systems of 48 islands. The integration of renewable energy hybrid systems into power systems in 48 islands was carried out under “Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development” (POISED) project being conducted by Ministry of Environment in association with Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan said that over USD 64 million was spent in efforts to provide cheaper electricity services in Maldives and thanked the ADB team for their continuous support and guidance throughout the project implementation and in particular for the development of the energy sector of the country.

Integration of Renewable Energy into power systems is the largest intervention in Maldives energy sector development covering about 160 islands.
