The Ministry of Tourism and Environment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Planning, convened a practical working session on Climate Budget Tagging as part of the development of Maldives Climate Public Expenditure and Institutional Review (CPEIR).
The working session focused on the proposed methodology for the expenditure analysis, which aims to identify and estimate climate-relevant expenditures in the national budget.
The session covered an overview of the CPEIR framework, the structure and classification of budget data, and a hands-on classification exercise involving selected activities and projects from the national budget. Participants applied the proposed tagging methodology to a sample data extract, fostering practical understanding and discussion of the approach.
In wrapping up the session, both Ministries underscored the importance of establishing uniformity in climate finance tracking mechanisms for effective adaptation planning in the Maldives.
This session was conducted under the Advancing the National Adaptation Plan of the Maldives (NAP Maldives) project. The project is implemented by the Ministry in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
