Stakeholder Consultation Conducted to Track Support for NDC Implementation

21 Jan 2025

Malé, Maldives – A stakeholder consultation to enhance tracking mechanisms for support received under the Maldives’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) was conducted today. The event included representatives from the President’s Office, the Climate Change Department of the Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Youth, Empowerment, Information and Art, Soneva Namoona, Maldives Islamic Bank, and the Maldives Space Research Organization.

The objective of the workshop was to gather feedback from stakeholders on proposed guidelines for state actors and a framework for non-state actors. These efforts aim to institutionalize and strengthen the tracking of climate finance to support transparency and alignment with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) under the Paris Agreement.

During the consultation, Dr. Anaa Hassan of Upclose Solutions and James Sammut of Aether UK presented the draft guidelines for state actors and the proposed framework for reporting by non-state actors. These tools are designed to streamline the reporting of climate finance received and invested in climate change actions or related activities, ensuring improved accountability and coordination.

The workshop was conducted under the Capacity Strengthening for Improved Transparency of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Actions in the Maldives (CBIT Maldives) project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The feedback collected during the workshop will contribute to the finalization of the guidelines and framework, supporting the Maldives’ efforts to effectively track and utilize climate finance as part of its commitment to achieving NDC targets.
