The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy (MCCEE), conducted an inception workshop for the Consultancy Service to Track Support for Mitigation Actions. The event brought together 13 participants (5 male, 8 female) from the Climate Change Department and Energy Department of MCCEE, FENAKA, MWSC, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), and STELCO.

The consultancy is being carried out by Riyan Private Limited in association with Grant Thornton Bharat LLP. The objective of the assignment is to develop guidelines on reporting procedures for greenhouse gas (GHG) estimations from mitigation measures, create tools and methodologies for estimating mitigation indicators to track NDC implementation, and establish an Online Integrated Tracking tool.

The scope of the assignment includes:

  1. Development of tools and methodologies for mitigation indicators to track NDC implementation in the energy and waste sectors.
  2. Creation of guidelines for reporting procedures of GHG estimations from mitigation measures in the energy and waste sectors.
  3. Development of an Online Integrated Tracking tool.
  4. Capacity building of relevant stakeholders.
  5. Knowledge management and document quality assurance.

This initiative is part of the Capacity Strengthening for Improved Transparency of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Actions in the Maldives (CBIT Maldives) project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

By aligning the Maldives’ transparency efforts with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement, the CBIT Maldives project aims to strengthen long-term institutional arrangements, systemize data collection and processing, and develop indicators and methodologies. Additionally, the project seeks to enhance the quality and management of data for GHG inventories, mitigation and adaptation action tracking, and climate finance reporting. These efforts are critical for ensuring regular and transparent reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), informing national decision-making processes, and contributing to effective climate change management.
