Malé, Maldives – The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy (MCCEE), in collaboration with USAID’s South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP), conducted a stakeholder consultation session to gather feedback on the Energy Management Guide for Schools.
The guide is being developed for a wide range of stakeholders, including school administ rators, operations and maintenance (O&M) staff, teachers, and students. It provides a structured process for enhancing energy efficiency in schools, with pathways to reduce environmental impact, enhance thermal comfort, and improve indoor air quality. Additionally, the guide outlines practical measures for integrating energy-efficient practices into the daily management and operation of school facilities.
Dr. Muaviyath Mohamed, Minister of State for Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, addressed the consultation and emphasized the importance of schools in promoting energy efficiency. “Schools are not just centers of learning; they are pivotal in fostering a culture of sustainability. This guide will enable schools to lead by example in reducing their environmental footprint,” he remarked.
The consultation was attended by Mr. Aaron Schubert, Director of the Indo Pacific Office at USAID/India, and Ms. Apurva Chaturvedi, Senior Regional Clean Energy Specialist at USAID/India, alongside other USAID and SAREP officials.
Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry’s Energy Department, Utility Regulatory Authority, Ministry of Education, Association of Maldivian Planners, and SAREP experts, contributed their insights on the draft guide. Feedback from this session will be instrumental in refining the guide to ensure it effectively addresses the unique requirements of schools across the Maldives.
