The Ministry has successfully conducted a three-day training workshop on Guidelines & Protocols for Data Collection and Reporting for GHG Inventories from 22nd to 24th January 2025. The workshop was facilitated by GHG Inventory Expert, Mr. Zammath Khaleel.
The workshop was conducted under the Capacity Strengthening for Improved Transparency of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Actions in the Maldives (CBIT Maldives) project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
A total of 14 (7 male, 7 female) participants from the Climate Change Department of the Ministry and the President’s Office took part in the training, which aimed to strengthen technical capacities for GHG inventory compilation and reporting. Over the three days, the workshop focused on the following topics:
- Day 1: Emission compilation and calculation,
- Day 2: GHG reporting,
- Day 3: Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) processes.
This training directly contributes to achieving project deliverables under the CBIT Maldives Project:
- Deliverable 1.2.5: The workshop covered two of the four required workshops on GHG inventory compilation and reporting during Days 1 and 2.
- Deliverable 1.4.3: The last day of the workshop addressed one of the three required QA/QC workshops.
To complete the deliverables, a combined workshop on GHG inventory compilation and QA/QC for stakeholders from the energy sector and non-energy sector is scheduled for February 2025.
This training enhances the Maldives’ institutional and technical capacity for GHG inventory management and reporting, supporting transparency requirements under the Paris Agreement and contributing to the country’s climate action goals.
