27 May 2025

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment successfully concluded a one-day training on Power BI for Climate and Energy Data Visualization, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance climate data transparency and analytical capabilities in the Maldives. The training was conducted under the Capacity Strengthening for Improved Transparency of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Actions in the Maldives (CBIT Maldives) Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

A total of 32 participants from a range of public and private institutions attended the training. These included officials from the Ministry, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Utility Regulatory Authority (URA), Maldives Airports Company Limited, Maldives Police Service, Housing Development Corporation, MWSC, FENAKA, STELCO, Dhiraagu, and several private sector companies.

Delivered by Riyan Private Limited, in association with Grant Thornton Bharat LLP, the training focused on building practical skills in using Microsoft Power BI to process and present climate and energy data in support of national climate reporting and decision-making. Participants were introduced to the Power BI interface and learned how to connect and clean data, develop dashboards, and apply visualization techniques relevant to tracking mitigation actions and energy use.

At the closing ceremony, certificates were awarded to participants by H.E. Ibrahim Mimrah, Minister of State for Tourism and Environment. In his closing remarks, he thanked all participants for their active engagement and expressed appreciation for their commitment throughout the sessions. He noted that the training had provided a solid introduction to Power BI and expressed hope that the skills gained would help participants interpret and present climate and energy data more effectively, supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen planning, reporting, and transparency.
