Training on Tools & Methodologies for Tracking Mitigation Actions Conducted

The Climate Change Department (CCD) of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MOTE) successfully conducted a Training on Tools & Methodologies for Tracking Mitigation Actions on 8th December 2025 at Meeruma, Male’.

The workshop was organized under the Capacity Strengthening for Improved Transparency of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Actions in the Maldives (CBIT Maldives) project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The training was delivered by Riyan Private Limited, in association with Grant Thornton Bharat LLP.

The session introduced participants to indicators and methodologies developed for tracking mitigation actions, as well as standardized reporting formats to strengthen transparent and consistent national reporting. Participants engaged in guided exercises and practical demonstrations to enhance their understanding of data requirements and reporting processes.

A total of 16  participants (9 male, 7 female) attended the workshop, representing key national stakeholders involved in mitigation data collection and reporting. Participants included representatives from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), the President’s Office, and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). Officials from the Climate Change Department, Energy Department, and Ozone Unit of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment also took part in the training sessions.
