Stakeholder consultation sessions were held in Fuvahmulah City on 13th May 2026 under the Third National Communication project of the Maldives, supported by UNEP. The sessions brought together stakeholders from the agriculture and tourism sectors to discuss the impacts of climate change on their respective sectors and to gather their views and experiences.
National Communications submitted under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change provide information on national circumstances, climate impacts, adaptation efforts, and other measures taken to address climate change. The consultations held in Fuvahmulah will contribute to the development of the adaptation chapter of the Maldives’ Third National Communication by incorporating sector-specific stakeholder perspectives and information.
Discussions focused on the impacts, challenges, and losses faced by the agriculture and tourism sectors as a result of climate change, as well as the need for practical and locally informed adaptation measures. Input gathered through the sessions will help strengthen the national assessment of vulnerabilities and adaptation needs, while also supporting the development of proposals to access climate finance for vulnerable sectors.
These consultations were conducted by Thibyan Ibrahim, Fathimath Zaina Shareef, Ahmed Masoon Hassan, Raniya Husnu Al Suood, and Hawwa Daiba from the Climate Change Department and supported by Gasith Mohammed (NDC Partnership), Jauza Khaleel (NAP-GN) , Izman Suhail (Commonwealth) Aishath Aileen Niyaz (Climate Change Expert).
