Awareness workshop on Energy Efficiency conducted at Faafu atoll Magoodhoo School

An awareness workshop on energy efficiency was held in Faafu atoll Magoodhoo School on 3rd February 2017. This workshop was organized by the Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) Project. A total of 25 students from Grade 8, 9 and 10 of Magoodhoo School participated in the workshop.

Speaking at the inauguration of the workshop, Acting Leading Teacher for grade 8, 9 and 10 of Magoodhoo School Ms. Aishath Sulthana advised the students to concentrate during the workshop hours, so that they would be able to change their habits related to Energy efficiency. “By obtaining theses information you would be able to bring a change in your monthly electric bills and save lots of money, ultimately you would be able to spend that money on your other needs” she added.

The workshop was conducted by officials from Ministry of Environment and Energy and the LCEI Project Management Unit.

The certificates were awarded to the participants by the Acting Leading Teacher Ms Aishath Sulthana and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the LCEI project Ms.Fathimath Raufa Moosa.

In the workshop, information was given on climate change, energy efficiency, ways to be more energy efficient, how to conserve energy and importance of energy efficiency in building design to reduce GHG emissions. Exercises were conducted to provide knowledge on power consumption of equipment’s and power consumption of buildings.

The project “Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies” project is implemented by Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) assisted by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and financed by Government of Maldives and Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through energy efficiency in the building sector, increasing energy efficiency in the building sector by developing appropriate policies, guidelines and standards.
