Training on Energy Statistics for Maldives organized by SAARC Energy Centre concludes today

SAARC Training on Energy Statistics for Maldives was concluded today.This training was organized by SAARC Energy Centre (SEC) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Energy from 2nd and 3rd August 2016.

The training was conducted by Dr. Sahibzada Ali Mahmud who has a PHD in Electrical Engineering and currently working asChief Information Officer at KP Economic Zone Department and Management Cooperation of Pakistan. A total of 15 participants are from Ministry of Environment and Energy, Maldives Energy Authority, STELCO, FENAK, MWSC and National Bureau of Statistics were trained in the workshop.

The Closing Remarks and certificates were handed over to the participants by Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim.

In Minister’s speech, he mentioned the importance of this training on energy statistics which will enhance the data collecting process of the energy sector. Also Minister thanked SAARC Energy Centre for their support to host this training in Maldives.

During the training information was given on the “Importance of Data”, “Role of Energy Statistics”, “Data Collection Methodologies”, “Energy Accounting Frame Work”, “Statistical Analysis” and “Tools for Data Analysis”. Sessions on day two were practical.

The expected outcome of the training was for statisticians and professionals responsible for energy data in the member states to be capacitated in energy statistics and skills to be enhanced for maintaining energy data and information in the most updated and timely manner.

Each year, SAARC Energy Centre conducts a number of workshops and training on various issues related to energy in different member countries. The last workshop which was held in Maldives was on the topic “Energy Based Livelihoods Contributing to Economic Empowerment of the Marginalized Sectors and Women in the SAARC Region” in 2015 at Mookai Hotel, Maldives.
