Contract awarded for development of Energy Efficiency Labelling Programme in Maldives

The contract for the Development of Energy Efficiency Labelling Programme in the Maldives have been awarded to PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Limited.

The contract was signed today, at a ceremony held at the Auditorium, Ministry of Environment and Energy. Honourable Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Environment and Energy signed the contract on behalf of the Ministry and Mr. Amit Kumar, Partner, signed the contract on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Limited.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Limited is a multinational company with more than 150 offices across the globe. The consultancy service of the development of energy efficiency labelling programme in the Maldives will be carried out by consultants from PricewaterhouseCoopers, India. India is among the best countries on implementing energy efficiency labelling and standard programmes.

The objective of the assignment is to initiate the implementation of an energy efficiency labelling (EE Labelling) programme for selected appliances in the Maldives. Under the consultancy, PricewaterhouseCoopers will develop detailed methodology to issue energy efficiency labels for selected appliances along with necessary forms, documentation, and to develop monitoring methodology for the Labelling programme.

MVR 1,295,616 worth contract is to be completed within 8 months.

This activity is carried out by Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) under the project “Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI)”.

The LCEI project is implemented by MEE assisted by UN Environment and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through energy efficiency in the building sector through implementing appropriate regulations and policies.
